At Terre Haute/Vigo County, we want to build a system for children to do well and be ready for school.  Area day care centers educate and nurture children. And choosing appropriate childcare is one of the greatest challenges of being a working parent.

Total number of children 0-5 = 7,974

• Number of Licensed homes = 144 with capacity of 1853
• Number of Centers = 8 with capacity of 583
• Number of Accredited Homes =  1
• Number of Accredited Centers = 7

Licensed care capacity = 2,436

Access to licensed care 43% of eligible children

• Number of Ministry Child Care = 6 (recommended capacity of 404)
• Number of Legally Licensed Exempt Homes = 77 (average capacity =6)
• Annual number of children receiving child care subsidies = 1,734
• Monthly number of children on wait list for subsidies = 187
